Your attendance is important.
Distinguished Teaching & Staff Awards–DUE FRIDAY
We are introducing a new program this year to recognize outstanding performance by teachers and other school staff members. Each year one teacher and one non-teacher staff member will be selected to be recognized and awarded a $1,000 award.
Nominations will come from current and past parents, alumni, and current staff members. An independent committee will be formed to review the nominations and select one recipient in each category. The awards will be presented each year at the Sate of the School meeting in April.
Nominations for the 2011/2012 award are due no later than Friday, March 9, 2012.

If you have not yet submitted your after-hours homework and activities survey, please do so right away. We need your input for planning purposes. Click here to access the spreadsheet. Please enter times as accurately as possible. If you have more than one child in the school, please fill out a form for each one. Please e-mail the spreadsheet(s) to afterschool@sacredheart.org. Conferences
PreK -5 Conference signups:
Signups for this year’s PreK through 5th grade fall conferences are being done through the website signupgenius.com.

- If you are not a member, please choose your time slot and write your name and put your child’s name in parenthesis next to your name.
- Please sign up for one conference time with your child’s homeroom teacher.
- Each conference is scheduled for 20 minutes.
Middle School Conferences:
This year we are trying a new process with middle school conferences. This is an approach that a few of our teachers have seen used successfully at other middle and high schools.
All of the middle school staff will be in the gym throughout the conference hours on Thursday and Friday. They will be seated at tables spaced throughout the gym. Parents will line up to meet with any teachers with whom they would like to meet. Meetings will be kept to 10 minutes. If a longer meeting is necessary parents can return to the end of the line or schedule a meeting with the teacher for the next week. In this way parents are able to meet with any of the teachers with whom they want to talk. There will be no advance sign-up for meetings during the conference days for middle school.
Parents are expected to monitor Power School regularly with your child in order to review your child’s grades, assignments, and attendance. Also, if you have concerns about your child’s performance, please do not wait until conference time to meet with the teacher. Contact the teacher for a meeting as soon as a concern arises.
Middle School conference times in the gym are:
- Thursday, October 27th: 1pm to 4:45pm and 6pm to 8:15pm. (break from 3-3:15)
- Friday, October 28th: 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm.
Pick-up and Drop-off Instructions
Do not text or talk on your cell phone when driving in the school parking lot.
Do not park in any designated fire zones or handicapped spaces without a handicapped parking permit. Do not block the gates in the upper lot.
Morning Drop-Off:
Between 7:00 and 8:10am, please drop your children off at the ESS entrance on north side of the school.
Upper Lot: K-3rd Grades
Between 8:10 and 8:30am, pull straight ahead to the Library entrance before stopping to let your children out right next to the staff member on duty. Please have your children exit from the passenger side of the car, step up onto the sidewalk, and walk safely on the sidewalk all the way to the school front entrance. Carefully continue to drive around the back of the school via the one way loop and exit on 97th Ave NE.
Upper Lot: Pre-K
Please park in the upper lot (spaces in the center of the lot) and walk your children to the classroom at 8:20am.
Lower Lot: 4-8 Grades
When dropping-off students in the lower parking lot please enter via NE 14th St.
· If there are no cars ahead of you, please pull your car all the way to the stairs nearest the school before stopping to unload your passengers.
· If there are cars ahead of you, please pull into line behind them. Please wait until you have at least reached the basketball hoop (located past the first set of stairs) before unloading your passengers.
· Please make sure your passengers exit from the driver’s side of your vehicle whenever possible to avoid children crossing lines of traffic.
· If you are planning to park your car (e.g., to purchase scrip, attend a meeting), please drop off your children in the drop-off line and then drive around to a parking space. Please do not park to drop-off your children as they then have to cross the line of traffic.
- If students or parents are waiting to cross the traffic line, please follow the directions of the staff member on duty about when to wait and when to drive.
- Please do not pull out of the drop-off line and drive around the cars in front of you. Waiting in line for a few more moments helps to keep the drop-off safe for everyone.
- Exit via the north end of the parking lot (near the big toy).
Afternoon Pick-Up
Upper Lot: Pre-K
Please park outside the gate at the upper lot. The Pre-K teacher or aide will walk your child outside. Carefully drive around and exit onto NE 14th St.
Upper Lot: K and 1st Grades
The Upper Lot is only for Kindergarten and First Grade, carpools with kindergarten and first grade, or exceptional needs (e.g., injured students).
Enter via NE 14th to upper lot and park in spaces beyond fenced area.
Exit is via the one way loop and exit on 97th Ave. NE.
Lower Lot: 2-8 Grades
(see diagram)
· Enter the lot via NE 14th and park following the directions of the parking supervisor (with hockey stick).
· If you are going to remain in your car to pick up your child and leave quickly, please park head-in a #1 space (i.e., one of the “front” parking spaces with room for another car to park behind you).
· If you are going to get out of your car to talk with other parents, buy scrip, etc., please park in a #2 space (i.e., behind a #1 space). In this way you will not block other cars.
· For the safety of the students, please DO NOT back up your vehicle into the walk zone.
· EXIT the lot via the north end of the parking lot only (near the big toy). The City of Clyde Hill does not allow us to exit via the NE 14th St. entrance at pick-up and drop-off time.

Important Message from the School Nurse
All Medications and paperwork for Medications at school must be received at school no later than Monday August 22, 2011.
Please remember we need all the medications; if your child is on multiple medications or requires medications in various locations they must all be here and in place. Life threatening issues: If there is no medication paperwork in place the student may not start school. Medications without proper paperwork cannot be used.
The Allergy Assessment form is found on the website. Please fill out and e-mail.
Care Plans will be created from your physician information and the information you provide. These Care Plans will be e-mailed for your review and signature. I will make appointments to meet with any families who wish to meet and/or your student is new to Sacred Heart. I always meet with New Parents. The meeting will occur prior to school starting. As always, as medical issues come up during the school year I will create Care Plans and oversee Medications along with AnnMarie Thompson.
Immunizations: We MUST have your child’s current Immunization Card completed. All Cards require a parent signature. We must have all student immunization records. Exemptions for immunizations require a physician note. As many of you know Washington State scored very poorly on immunizations so we anticipate an audit forth coming.
Questions: please e-mail Linda Lavin, School Nurse
