Dear Parents:

Ready for the adventure of a lifetime? At Sky, kids discover that everything is possible with God! Sky is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the Sky activities that help faith flow into real life. (Since everything is hands-on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes.) Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings.

Get ready to hear that phrase a lot!

Your kids will also participate in a hands-on mission project, through a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid, that will let the kids in our community show God’s love to children in Mali, Africa.

Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to join us in “First-Class Seating” section each day at 11:40am, because that’s when we’ll be having Fly Away Finale—a daily celebration of God’s love you won’t want to miss.

 So mark these dates on your calendar:June 25th – June 29th .

The fun starts at 9:00am and will end at noon. Call this number 425-450-4912  or www.sacredheart.org to register your children for this life-changing adventure! Or use VBS P.R.O. to register online! The cost is $60.00 per child.  Sign up soon only 15 spaces left for camp. Sign up today!

 Sincerely,

 Your Sky VBS Director

Volunteer Opportunities at Sky VBS

Welcome to Sky: Where all things are possible with God!

In just a few short months, our church will soar into the Sky…Sky VBS, that is! Kids will worship God through songs and prayer, experiment with Sciency-Fun Gizmos, and discover life-changing Bible truths in fun and memorable ways.

To have the best adventure possible, we need lots of volunteers who can give some time, energy, and love to the kids who will attend. So let me share a few ideas about ways you might be able to make this program a success. Please check out the following list, and then pray about where God might use you.

Station Leaders: Use easy-to-follow station leader manuals and prepare one 20-minute session each day, which you will repeat with four different groups of approximately 20 kids. We need leaders for the following stations:

  • Up & Away Sing & Play/Fly Away Finale (daily opening and closing, includes leading songs)
  • Imagination Station (fun, hands-on science experiments)
  • All-Star Games (high-energy games, with an emphasis on missions)
  • Sky High Movie & Missions (video adventure and discussion)
  • Skydive Diner (helping kids make snacks)
  • Wild Blue Bible Adventures (incredible, surprising explorations of Bible stories)

Crew Leaders: Shepherd a mixed-age group of five elementary children through each day’s activities…and there’s no preparation!

Crew Leaders for preschoolers: Be a friend and helper to a group of five preschool children…again, no preparation required!

Still don’t see something that interests you? We’d also love to have a…

  • Registration team
  • Decorating team
  • Photographer
  • Publicity coordinator
  • Supply coordinator

Guess what? There are also a few spots for anyone who’s dramatically inclined! Whatever your gifts, abilities, and time commitment, we’ve got a place for you

We believe that God will use this incredible program to reach many children with the message of his love, so please prayerfully consider your role in Sky VBS. Feel free to contact me by e-mail, phone, or in person if you have any questions. (For more information about Sky, visit https://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/SacredHeartBellevue  or kramous@sacredheart.org  You’ll connect with others who have volunteered in similar programs in the past.)

God bless,

Kathryn Ramous

Preparing the Way of the Lord

Week One -November 27, 2011 -First Sunday of Advent

Get Your Heart Ready!

“Advent has begun: you have four weeks to prepare for Christmas.  What will you do to get ready?  Will you be thinking about decorating the tree, or about what kind of presents you hope to give and receive?  It is very good to think about these things and to prepare a beautiful celebration for your family and friends- as long as you haven’t put Jesus to the side!  Don’t forget that Christmas is the celebration of his birthday.  It is in honor of Jesus that we give each other gifts, that we decorate our homes, and that your parents prepare those very special meals. So, what can you do to get ready for Jesus’ birthday?  You can simply prepareyour heart to welcome him with as much energy as you put into preparing your gifts and your home.

Jesus says:”Stay awake.” Stay awake doesn’t just mean waiting and not doing anything.  It means continually trying to become closer to God by doing good for others, by praying every day, and by asking him to come and change your heart.  In this way your heart will be the most beautiful manger for baby Jesus.”

Week TWO -December 4, 2011- Second Sunday of Advent

Following Jesus’ footsteps

“You have been preparing for Christmas for a week now.  You may feel as if Christmas is taking for ever to arrive- but this is normal!  It aways takes time to prepare one’s home for guests- and during Advent, we’re preparing to welcome the most important guest of all- Jesus!  This week, we hear John the Baptist telling us to clear a straight path for the Lord.  This means to make Jesus’ coming easier.  How?  We can starighten his road by recognizing our sins and being truly sorry for them.  We also make his road easier by announcing the good news to others so that thye will also await the coming of Christ and open their hearts to him.  We do this by trying to be like Jesus.  By loving as Jesus loves, we become straight pathways of grace for others.  Others will experience God’s love through us!”

Week Three- December 11, 2011- Third Sunday of Advent

A humble witness

“John the Baptist is the humble witness who comes before Jesus; he precedes him.  A witness is someone who has directly known a person or experienced an event and can truthfully tell about this person or event.  John the Baptist knows Jesus well- he is his cousin.  He baptized Jesus and saw the Holy spirit descend upon him.  John the Baptist is not the Messiah but a servant who simply announces the coming of the Messiah.  He doesn’t brag about being Jesus’ cousin.  He simply serves him.  He knows that without God he would be nothing because God gives us everything.  You too have met witnesses who have helped you discover Jesus and get to know him.  They themselves discovered him and believed in him.  They helped you know him becasue he was of such importance to them.  These people were like John the Baptist for you- they prepared the way for the Lord.  What a great reason to be joyful and give thanks to God for all those who have guided you on the path of faith. ”

Week 4- December 18, 2011- Fourth Sunday of Advent

Here I am, Lord

“To continue preparing for the coming of Jesus, take a look at Mary.  She is full of grace- in other words, she has always been filled with the life and love of God.  This is why she listens to and welcomes the angel’s words, even if they are very surprising words! Mary trust God.  She says yes to becoming the mother of the Son of God.  She welcomes Jesus in a very special way.  When you welcome someone, you make room for him or her.  You show that person that you are very happy about his or her coming.  You can think of so many things to do for someone you love!  All that counts for you is the moment when that person you love arrives; you save a special place for him or her in your life.  During Christmas all of us should say yes to giving Jesus more and more room in our lives.  We must be like Mary, trusting God and welcoming Jesus into our hearts.  If we open our hear to him, he will come and live there and make us his home.”

Dear Parent,

Good Morning, happy fall day!     It is chilly outside as our liturgical season continues to move on.  We are in ordinary time right now, but we will be moving to Advent very soon. Advent starts November 27th, here are some things coming up.

Homeless Meals Program:  Thank you to all who responded to my email last night.  If you have not had time to respond, please see attached meals list and help out if you can.  We are the first week of November, so we need to fill the days so our hungry will be fed.  It is cold outside and a hot meal could make all the difference.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to participate in our out reach program.  The book for signing up will be on the table this weekend for RE.  If you would like to see what you signed up for, get directions, or sign up for a meal.  Please stop by the check in table as you enterSacredHeartSchool for Religious Education classes each Sunday.

Revised Order of the Mass starts-Advent:  November 27th will be the start of the changes to the Mass; we have had flyers in the bulletin talking about the changes as well as a small book Understanding the Revised Mass Text was sent out to your home.  In class the teachers will start to work with the children and they will send home a Revised Order of the Mass pew card that they can take toMass.  I will also have a flyer for you to read on theMass.

On November 6th Damian Bastasini (Pastoral Assistant for Adult Education) will be in the Library during the classes from 10:10am to 10:50am to go over the Mass changes and why.

Handouts: This weekend we will have flyers for the children.  Remember to check with your child’s teacher to pick up their work and handouts.  Thank you for dropping off your child and picking them up.  Father Pat does not want students picking up student for safety reasons.  We appreciate your help.

Monday October 31, 2011 Halloween- Prayer for carving pumpkins

Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin help me say this prayer:
Open my mind so I can learn about You;
(Cut the top of the pumpkin)
Take away all my sins and forgive me for the wrong things I do.
(Clean out the inside)
Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
(Cut the eyes out in heart shapes)
I’m so sorry for turning up my nose to all you’ve given me.
(Cut a nose in the shape of a cross)
Open my ears so your word I will hear.
(Cut the ears shaped like the Bible)-we did rectangles
Open my mouth so I can tell others You’re near
(cut the mouth in the shape of a fish)
Let Your light shine in all I say and do! Amen.
(Place a candle inside and light it)
