Sacred Heart Parent’s Club is proud to present:

Dr. Laura Kastner and “21st Century Parenting Techniques!

Where: The Moore Theatre at Sacred Heart

When: Thursday,May 17, 2012, 6:30-8:00 pm

 

In honor of Mother’s Day, Sacred Heart invites moms, dads and kids to join us for an evening of fun, compliments of Sacred Heart’s Parents Club.   Parents can check in their children (pre K through 5th) to the free “kids camp” starting at 6:30 in the Sacred Heart gym and then enjoy a short wine and cheese reception before Dr. Kastner starts her presentation at 7:00.  Kids camp will include games, activities and, of course, a sundae bar!

 

DR. LAURA KASTNER is a clinical psychologist and clinical associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at University of Washington. Dr. Kastner has co-authored three books with Jennifer Wyatt: The Seven Year Stretch: How Families Work Together To Grow Through Adolescence, Houghton-Mifflin, 1997; The Launching Years: Strategies for Parents from Senior Year to College Life, Three Rivers Press, 2003; and Getting to Calm: Cool-headed strategies for parenting tweens and teens, ParentMap, 2009. She has also written academic articles and magazine features on a wide range of topics related to child development, family functioning and mental health. A frequent lecturer on a wide-range of family topics, Dr. Kastner maintains a private practice and consults on parenting issues. She and her husband of 26 years have two young adult children.

Distinguished Teacher/Staff Award 2011-2012

We are excited to introduce a new program this year to recognize outstanding performance by teachers and other school staff members!  Each year one teacher and one non-teacher staff member will be selected, recognized and awarded a $1,000 award.

Nominations will come from current and past parents, alumni, and current staff members. An independent committee will be formed to review the nominations and select one recipient in each category. The awards will be presented each year at the Sate of the School meeting in April.

Author, teacher, coach and parent, Tom Doyle, is a Sacred Heart parishioner who has decades of experience in the world of student athletes will come speak to us about childhood athletics -How to better understand your child athlete and your role in helping them flourish!
 Mr. Doyle taught at both Odea and Seattle Prep high schools, he was named Washington State’s Athletic Director of the Year in 2001 and is the author of “True Coaching” and “The Sports Parents Manual”. Currently, Mr. Doyle is the business manager for Personal Perceptions Northwest and speaks to local and national audiences about the important issues relating to children’s athletics.  Please mark the date and plan to attend.

 

Stefanie Thomas from SPD Speaks to 7th and 8th Grade

We were pleased to  welcome  Stefanie Thomas from the Seattle Police Department again to Sacred Heart School on Tuesday, October 25. Stefanie is a Victim Advocate in the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Unit. Last year she met with parents during a Parent’s Club sponsored event in March. This time around,  she met with our  7th and 8th graders during an assembly  in the Moore Theater and discussed internet safety, cyber-bullying, social networking and safety tips with the students. Back to School Coffee – 8/31 SHS Gym 8:30am
On the first day of school, the community gathers in the gym to begin the school year in prayer.  Once the teachers have lead their students back to class, the SHS Parents’ Club and Service Board invite you to join us for some coffee and reconnect with parents and meet some new ones!

Ice Cream Social – 9/8 SHS Gym 6:30-8:30pm
SHS students and parents are invited to join us and come make sundaes and enjoy the company of other SHS families.
