Grades 1-8

It’s time for Fall CYO soccer registration! All students entering grades 1 – 8 in the Fall at SHS or in the Parish are welcome to join us for the 2012 soccer season.  No experience required, only the desire to learn and have fun!  Registration is online and registration deadlines are as follows:

Dates Cost
Registration May 1-31 $75 (per child); $65 for each child after the first
Late Registration June 1-15 $90 (per child); $80 for each child after the first

For those who miss the normal and late registration periods, there may be an opportunity to register during the first two weeks of September (9/1-9/15) – only if space permits. Registration acceptance is at the discretion of the soccer coordinators and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. The late registration fee of $90 + a $50 (per family) administration fee will apply. Families new to the school and/or Parish are not subject to the late fees.

Scholarships are available through CYO, contact Katie Frigon, Athletic Director.

Coaches and assistant coaches are always needed and appreciated. This year we are introducing a new policy – if you coach or assistant coach we will refund your child’s registration fee at the end of the season (max 2 per team). For any questions on what this entails please contact:

Cross Country Team Takes 2nd Place

Congratulations to all the runners that participated in Cross Country this year.   We were 258 runners strong – roughly 70% of our student body – and the biggest team at the finals.  With the hard work and dedication of our runners,  we placed 2nd out of 38 schools.

IMG_8806 Thank you to the 8th graders for their leadership throughout the season. They fielded a team of 34 runners and gave it their all.  Special recognition goes out to four 8th graders:  Ben W,  Christine S, Gavin C,  and Quinn B.  They are our most dedicated runners having participated every year since kindergarten.  To all kindergarteners that ran – are you up for the challenge?   Can you do the same thing?

Both meets combined,  232 runners participate in the championships.  Congratulations go out to the following groups that had 100% of their qualified runners compete in the championship meet:

  • 3rd grade girls (18 runners – the most enthusiastic group)
  • 6th grade girls (9 runners – small but mighty)
  • 7th grade girls (19 runners – our biggest group of girls)

Emily E  was our only top 6 finisher in the meet.  She placed 5th in the tough 6th grade girls race.  Way to go, Emily!   The list of Top 15 finishers will be posted later this week after CYO publishes the results.

From Mr. Murphy:

Dear everyone in the SHS Cross Country Family,

I cannot express all my gratitude to all your efforts you made for this year’s Cross Country team.  We had 258 qualify to run in the championship.  We had runners show up who missed many other sporting events, some that were hurting, some sick and many other obstacles were overcome.  Thank you for all the sacrifices you made.  We put together the best team that we could.  Second place out of 38 teams is a major accomplishment.  I hope everyone feels very good about themselves this year.  I was very proud of how the students handled themselves when the results were announced.  I appreciated they way they congratulated the St. Al/John runners and distributed cookies to them.  I have high hopes for next year.  I know this year’s 7th graders and 6th graders are ready to step up and help the team next year.  This year’s third graders seem to do very well and had an excellent number turn out. The 8th grade captains will be designing the shirt and they should be ready in 5-6 weeks.

Sincerely,

Murph the old man

It’s been a great season.  We look forward to having everyone back next year and reclaiming our title!
